BFT gate repair in Tampa usually takes one visit, and most jobs land between $180 and $460 depending on whether we’re replacing a capacitor, a control board, or a set of hinge bearings. We’re an independent BFT service provider – not a manufacturer call center – and we show up with the parts your operator actually needs on the truck. You get a written price before we turn a single screw.

If your BFT gate is stuck mid-swing, beeping and flashing, or moving an inch and stopping, call (850) 789-6299. Our team at Latch and Post Gate Repair Tampa works on BFT operators every week. We’ll tell you over the phone whether it sounds like a quick fix or a control board, and we’ll give you a straight price either way.
How BFT Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
BFT builds solid operators, but every line has its weak points. Around Tampa, heat and salt air push those weaknesses out into the open faster than they’d show up in, say, a dry inland climate. Here’s what we see most often:
- Phobos and Deimos swing operators: capacitor failure from heat cycling. Tampa summers cook the capacitor inside the control housing until it swells or pops. The gate hums but won’t move, or it stalls halfway and the obstacle sensor trips. We replace the capacitor with a matched-value part – $90 – $140 installed – and check the fan vent while we’re in there.
- Icaro and Rigel slide operators: limit switch drift after storms. These operators use magnetic limit switches that lose their position when lightning hits nearby or a power surge resets the board. The gate opens too far, or not far enough, and starts slamming the end post. We re-set the limits at the board and replace any switch that won’t hold calibration.
- BFT control boards (Thalia, Lux): voltage regulator burnout. This is the one BFT’s own manual doesn’t warn you about. When the regulator fails, the gate’s display flickers and the operator ignores the remote unless you’re standing ten feet away. A board rebuild runs $280 – $380; a new board is $420 – $590 depending on the model. We’ll tell you which one makes sense for the age of your operator.
- Hinge and post strain on heavy gates. BFT operators are strong enough to move a gate that’s sagging, but they shouldn’t have to. A gate that’s dropped an inch puts continuous load on the motor and strips the gear teeth prematurely. We rebuild the hinge post, re-hang the leaf, and then re-set the operator’s torque so it’s not fighting the gate. The operator lasts years longer.
- Rust in the bottom rail from Tampa’s wet season. We see BFT slide gates in South Tampa, Palma Ceia, and Carrollwood where the bottom rail rots from standing water and lawn sprinklers. The operator starts laboring, then the gate jams on the track. We cut out the rusted section, weld in new galvanized steel, and re-coat. It’s a $220 – $420 job depending on rail length.

Our BFT Gate Repair Process
- 1
You call, a live person answers. We ask what the gate is doing – the exact symptom, not the theory. “It buzzes but doesn’t move” tells us more than “it’s broken.”
- 2
We show up with the common BFT parts on the truck. Capacitors, limit switches, fuses, remotes, and the control boards we replace most often. That’s how we finish most repairs on the first visit.
- 3
We diagnose in front of you. We check the incoming voltage, the capacitor, the limit settings, and the motor draw. If it’s a board, we’ll show you the burnt component. Cody Beckman is known for saying, “Tell me what the gate is doing, and I’ll tell you exactly what it needs.”
- 4
You get a written price before any work starts. OEM BFT part, quality aftermarket, or a rebuild – we explain the trade-off and let you choose. No pressure, no surprise invoice at the end.
- 5
We repair, test, and clean up. The gate runs through three full cycles before we call it done. We sweep the work area, and if the operator is inside the garage or near the house, we’ve already put down a drop cloth and worn shoe covers.
- 6
365-Day Done Right Promise. If anything about the repair isn’t right within a year, we make it right. No argument, no fine print.
What BFT Gate Repair Costs in Tampa
Most BFT gate repair in Tampa falls into clear ranges. A capacitor replacement runs $90 – $140. Limit switch replacement or re-calibration is $120 – $180. A control board rebuild is $280 – $380, and a new board is $420 – $590 installed. Hinge and post work starts around $180 and rises with the size of the gate. Weld and rust repair runs $220 – $420 depending on how much rail we replace.
What moves the price is the part, not our labor rate. We don’t pad labor when a board is expensive. We tell you the number, write it down, and that’s what you pay. Estimates are free – call (850) 789-6299 and we’ll give you a real number over the phone for most common repairs.

You’ll see a photo of the clean-up before our technician leaves your driveway.
FAQs
BFT’s warranty covers manufacturing defects, not wear-and-tear repairs, and using an independent service provider does not automatically void it. We use OEM BFT parts where it matters – control boards, gear assemblies – and quality aftermarket parts where the OEM part is overpriced for what it does. We’ll always tell you which is which before you spend a dollar.
Call (850) 789-6299 if your gate is acting up and you want to know what you’re dealing with. Estimates are free.
A gate stuck open is a security problem, and we treat it that way. In most Tampa neighborhoods we can be there within a day, often the same day if you call before mid-morning. We don’t promise same-day for every situation, but we do answer the phone 24/7 with a live person. Call (850) 789-6299 and we’ll give you an honest arrival window.
If the motor is in good shape and the board is repairable, repair almost always wins. A rebuilt BFT board costs about half of a new one and lasts years when the root cause – heat, surge, or gear load – is fixed. We recommend replacement when the operator is 12+ years old and two or more major components have failed. We’ll give you both prices in writing and let you decide.
We stock the most common BFT parts on our trucks – capacitors, limit switches, remote controls, and fuses – and we keep a bin of control boards for the models we see most in Tampa. If your operator is less common, we can usually have the part within a day or two from our local supplier. That’s the advantage of a local independent shop in Tampa rather than a remote call center.
Yes. We still repair discontinued BFT lines, including older slide operators that used chain drives and early boards. Some parts we source from newer BFT models that are electrically compatible, and we’ll tell you when that’s the case. We don’t retire an operator just because it’s old if it still has life in it, and we’ll be straight about how much that life is worth putting money into. Call (850) 789-6299 and tell us the model number.
